Esra Soytürk’s work titled “Grouper Hunt” imagines the underwater world with a surreal and critical perspective. The characters placed within the depth of the setting reflect not only a fish hunt, but also a state of observation, pursuit, and intervention unfolding within subconscious layers. The central grouper figure becomes the focal point of curiosity and control, while the surrounding observers draw the viewer into becoming part of the hunt.

Created with acrylic on paper, the scene is enriched with linear density and dreamlike details. The darkened color areas express both depth and suppressed emotions. In this work, Soytürk explores the relationship between nature and humanity, while also tracing the footprints of visual memory. “Grouper Hunt” is a symbolic scene that questions not only underwater life, but also the roles of the watcher and the watched.
