Memories
23 x 28 cm – Mixed Media on Paper
Esra Soytürk’s piece titled “Memories” presents a reflection of the past tinted in shades of blue. The faint figures outlined by soft lines evoke the layered nature of memory and the faces erased over time. The transitions between colors create an atmosphere where the warmth of memories and the distance created by their loss are felt simultaneously. The solitary figure on the right appears like a gaze left alone within memory.
Created with mixed media on paper, this work blends abstract and figurative expression to trace personal history and emotions. The inability of the opposing figures to approach one another implies the ruptures in relationships touched by time. In this work, Soytürk visually explores the protective and damaging effects of memories. “Memories” whispers not only about the act of remembering, but also how deeply human forgetting is.
