Octopus
15 x 10 cm – Acrylic on Paper
Esra Soytürk’s small-scale piece titled “Octopus” harbors a complex unconscious structure beneath its seemingly humorous surface. The fairytale-like and grotesque figures evoke both amusement and discomfort in the viewer. The colorful tentacles overflow beyond the boundaries of the work, symbolizing the emergence of repressed emotions and the spreading of inner chaos. The figures rising from the bottom upwards carry traces of movement coming from a deeper psychological space.
Created with acrylic on paper, this layered expression reveals the playful yet striking face of the subconscious. Each character represents a different fragment of the artist’s inner world. Despite its small size, “Octopus” stands out for its intense symbolism, portraying the expression of uncontrollable thoughts and repressed emotions. Soytürk invites the viewer on a fun yet unsettling inner journey with this work.
