Shadow Crowd
22.5 x 24.5 cm – Ink on Paper
Esra Soytürk’s work titled “Shadow Crowd” depicts a state of mind filled with thoughts constantly circulating in the background, suppressed identities, and silent witnesses. The faces and fragmented figures gathered at the center visually express the loneliness present within a crowd. The figure becoming distinct at the top appears as an entity observing this inner chaos from the outside while simultaneously being intertwined with it.
The dense drawing language created with ink on paper successfully conveys the interwoven nature of the figures and the dissolution of individual identity. The single eye emerging in the center symbolizes a state of consciousness that observes and judges, while the surrounding faces stand as fragmented reflections of the self. “Shadow Crowd” is a powerful narrative about the emergence of the suppressed and the inner crowd one encounters in the quest to find oneself.
